I stay true to myself and my style, I am always pushing myself to be aware of that and be original. – Aaliyah
I’m going to get straight to the point with this one: without Aaliyah, there would be no Beyoncé, no Ciara, no Rihanna. They can try but none of them come close to what Aaliyah was, and still is. She was so ahead of her time that people are still looking up to her for inspiration.
I remember when she first came out with Age Ain’t Nothing but a Number in 1994 and she was something like 15 years old at the time. She was such a tomboy but yet so feminine (dare I say sexy) and stylish at the same time. She was a huge influence to my personal style, even if some of it was very questionable. You know that whole baggy jeans, Tommy Hilfiger or Calvin Klein waistband peeking out and crop-top look from the ’90s? I’m pretty sure she invented it and it’s crazy to think that almost 14 years later it’s making a roaring comeback.
Either way she left an incredible mark on me and without a doubt many other females.
